This work investigated the separation of fine quartz from kaolin by flotation. Single mineral flotation tests indicated that effective separation of quartz from kaolin was possible with acidic pH value (pH = 3), depressant of starch and collector of dodecyl amine (DDA). Rougher flotation tests of coal-series kaolin revealed that the SiO2/Al2O3 weight ratio of the concentrate was qualified for industrial applications in the presence of 160 g/t starch and 100 g/t DDA, at acidic pH pulp. A specially designed two-stage cleaner flotation flowsheet increased the concentrate recovery from 37.26% to 46.55% compared to a rougher flotation process.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:44:46 AEDT ]]> Kinetics of flotation. Order of process, rate constant distribution and ultimate recovery https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:31288 f(K), order of flotation process n and ultimate recovery R are presented to perform analysis of flotation kinetics. The flotation rate constant f(K) is a function of both the size and hydrophobicity of particles. Though the more commonly used distributions are Delta function as well as Rectangular, Kelsall and Gamma models, there is no agreement in the literature as to which distribution function better characterize the floatability distribution. The first-order models can be used to describe most mineral flotation processes, while there is also evidence that the non-integral-order equation is capable of representing the kinetic characteristics of the batch flotation process. The order is lower than 1 in the initial moments of the flotation process. The solution of ultimate recovery calculated by the least squares method is greater than 100% (R >100%). An empirical model was proposed to avoid the improper phenomenon in the solution of ultimate recovery, which can improve the availability and validity of kinetic models. Finally, more attention should be paid to the overfitting resulting from the increase in the number of parameters in the statistical analysis of kinetic models.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:43:04 AEDT ]]> Preliminary study on foreign slime for the gravity separation of coarse coal particles in a teeter bed separator https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34042 Mon 04 Feb 2019 15:02:05 AEDT ]]>
